How Long Should a YouTube Title Be?

YouTube allows up to 100 characters in a video title, but Google typically displays only the first 70 characters in search results. The sweet spot for most creators is 50–70 characters — long enough to include your primary keyword and a hook, short enough to display fully everywhere.

This tool shows you a live Google search preview as you type, so you can see exactly where your title gets cut off. The progress bars show your usage against both the YouTube limit (100) and the Google snippet limit (70).

Title Length and CTR

Studies of YouTube title performance consistently show that titles between 50 and 70 characters achieve the highest click-through rates. Titles under 30 characters often lack enough context to attract clicks, while titles over 70 get truncated in search, losing the keyword-rich ending that might have driven the click.
